Question of the week
Q1) Does Microsoft give credits for any certification program towards its
MCSE program? (From Charles Harris)
ANS) No. At the moment Microsoft does not give credits for any
certification program towards its MCSE program. As we have discussed in a
previous issue of CertAdvisor Microsoft is apparently willing to award
credits to complementary certifications, but is yet to identify them.
Earlier, Microsoft waived the networking exam requirement for MCSE and
MCSE+Internet candidates who were certified as Novell CNEs, Master CNEs,
or CNIs; Banyan CBSs or CBEs; or Sun Certified Network Administrators for
Solaris 2.5 or 2.6. But this credit was available for only MCSE+Internet
certification and Windows NT 3.51 and Windows NT 4.0 MCSE tracks. It is
not valid on the Windows 2000 MCSE track.

Q2) Does CIW offer any security certification? (From Eric Chapman)
ANS) CIW's Master CIW Administrator track focuses on key security issues
such as implementation of security policy, identification of security
threats, development of countermeasures using firewall systems and
attack-recognition technologies, management of e-business transactions,
payment security solutions and so on.
To become a Master CIW Administrator candidates need to pass a Foundations
exam (1D0-410) and three job role series exams: Server Administrator
(1D0-450), Internetworking Professional (1D0-460) and Security
Professional (1D0-470)
By passing Foundations exam and any of the above job role series exam
candidates can earn a CIW Professional designation.

Q3) I have a BS in a non-IT related field. I want to build good
credentials in IT and then go for an MBA. I already have MCSE, CNA and
CCNA. Will I be better off in the future with an MBA or with
certifications such as a CCIE? (From Hworcester)
ANS) You have to choose between a career in engineering or business
development according to your aptitude and personality. Both the
specializations obviously lead to critical jobs and assure a good career
if you are competent. Good business development executives with sound
understanding of IT would always be in demand. If you wish to pursue an
MBA the certifications you have already achieved provide you excellent
credentials in IT and position you as a professional who can marry the
discrete worlds of business development and IT.
Q4) What is the passing score for Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL
(1Z0-001 ) (From Rohu1978)
ANS) You have to get 39 questions correct out of a total of 57. The
passing score is 68%. Please note that Oracle frequently publishes new
versions of OCP exams, and the passing score across versions may differ.

Sam Stewart says exam preps have to be chosen cautiously.
"I recently bought practice exams from a noted company (not from
ExamsOnline.com -- editor) for Exam 70-216: Implementing and Administering
a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure. Though I mastered them I
failed in the actual exam. There were many situations in the actual exam,
which the practice questions exams did not touch upon at all. I wondered
if the people, who prepared these practice exams, had really taken the
actual exams. Exam 70-216 expects a candidate to have a lot of experience,
know everything from medium sized to very large networks and have an
answer to every problem that may possibly occur. Unfortunately, the
practice exams I used were not up to the challenge."
