want to prepare for a security certification program. What are the
prospects for certified security professionals? (From Bryan Hall)

would an increasing demand for competent security professionals. Getting
certified in a good program would an effective way to demonstrate such
competence.
A Gartner Group study found that certification is becoming a common
condition of employment for security professionals. According to it by
2004 security certification would be required for 60 percent of CISOs
(chief information security officers) and associated staff positions and
for 40 percent of day-to-day technical operations positions in Global 2000

Q2) Why is CompTIA reverting back to adaptive format for A+ exams? (From
Alan Wisner)
ANS) There is consensus in industry that adaptive testing is an effective
tool to accurately measure candidates' competence. Though CompTIA offered
earlier version of A+ exams (1998 objectives) in adaptive format it
released its new A+ exams (2001 objectives) in traditional format. It had
then indicated that it needed time till August 31st to gather information
on the difficulty level of each question before switching over to the
adaptive format.

'Curtis' says there are good opportunities in less popular certification
programs.
"I recently become a Certified Lotus Professional (CLP) and managed to get
a job that pays 60k. If I had more experience I could have negotiated for
an even higher salary. A salary survey by Lotus states that last year the
annual average total compensation for those certified by Lotus was
$82,000. Certified Lotus Professionals (CLPs) made $85,000, Principal
Certified Professionals (PCLPs) made $87,000 and Certified Lotus
Instructors (CLIs) made $92,000 on an average. I think there are good
opportunities in certificates like these, which are useful but less
popular. Why does everyone go just for Microsoft or Oracle or Cisco
certificates?"
